Weekly Data Updates

When Store Leads was first launched, we updated the database monthly sometime around the 7th day of the month. But a lot can change in a month and, frankly, it wasn't great to have to wait so long for updates. We've been working hard to get data into your hands more quickly. We're happy to announce that we'll be updating the database on a weekly basis, so you'll have access to those new stores immediately.

Ranking Improvements

We've improved our ranking algorithm by adding traffic estimates. Before this update, we calculated rank for domains in our database based on harmonic centrality and page rank from the Common Crawl dataset. Centrality and page rank are based on the links between domains. They are a good indication of the connectedness of a domain but are not the best indicator of a domain's popularity. As a result, some of the top domains under the old algorithm were a bit of a headscratcher.

App and Theme Spend

We've added estimated theme spend and monthly app spend for each Shopify domain in the database. Read below for an explanation of how we calculate these values and how to interpret them. Theme Spend Theme spend is based on our theme detection algorithm, which identifies themes purchased from the theme store even if the theme has been customized by the merchant. As a result, we do a good job of identifying themes that a merchant is running and can produce a theme spend estimate based on the cost of the theme as advertised in the theme store.

BigCommerce

Many of you are interested in understanding trends and usage across multiple ecommerce platforms. To that end, we've just added BigCommerce domains to our database. BigCommerce is relatively small, compared to Shopify, but they are growing at a respectable rate. By default, we'll show you domains across both platforms but you can easily filter the results to a specific platform using our search interface. Domain platform filter.

Improved Geographic Filtering

Store Leads has always supported filtering domains by country but they could be a little hard to use. We used to show a list of two-letter country codes, known as ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes. Most of us know a small handful of country codes by heart, but things can get confusing when you come across one that you don't recognize. To make things easier, we're now showing the full country name, alongside the country code.

Source for Social Media Accounts and Contact Information

Store Leads includes social media accounts and contact information for each store. We believe in sourcing and processing data using transparent methods. To that end, every single social media account, email address and phone number has public sources that you can verify. This can also be handy in case the source page has been updated since we last crawled. To see the source page, simply click on the icon to the right of the social media account, email address or phone numbers.

Advanced Search Improved

With the introduction of negative conditions, Advanced search is now more powerful than ever. Negative conditions give you more flexibility when segmenting domains. Let's walk through a few examples. Suppose you are a Shopify app developer and your app displays a banner at the top of a page. Banner apps are some of the most popular apps in the Shopify App Store. Store Leads makes it easy to identify all the Shopify stores that have installed your app.

Phone Numbers for Shopify stores

We've just added phone numbers for over 215,000 stores in our database. When we first launched, Store Leads included email addresses and social media contact information for all Shopify stores. But sometimes a phone number comes in handy. To see phone numbers, start by logging into the Store Leads Dashboard. You can create an account for free if don't already have one. Here's what it looks like after you've logged in.

Introducing the API

We've added an API to support programmatic access to our data. This allows you to integrate the information we collect into whatever you need to get your job done. In the spirit of starting small, we're launching with a fairly modest feature set but expect it to grow over time. The API currently provides information for Shopify domains and apps. You can retrieve information for a Shopify domain based on the public DNS domain name or the myshopify.

Improved Shopify App Detection

When we first launched Shopify App Detection, our coverage was fairly modest. At the time, we were only able to identify 112 different apps, which represented about 5% of all apps available in the Shopify App Store. We've been hard at work improving this feature and we're happy to share that we're now identifying 1,157 different apps, which have collectively been installed over 2.3 million times. This represents approximately 34% of all Shopify apps.
