Cohort Retention Analytics
We've just launched Cohort Analytics reports for all platforms, apps and technologies that we track. Cohort Analytics are a common approach for tracking both churn and retention improvements over time. These reports show the retention rates for stores that started using a platform, app or technology during a specific quarter. The report shows how retention varies across different cohorts. Increased retention in more recent cohorts suggests improved product-market fit.
Note: This feature is only available on the Enterprise plan.
As an example, here is the cohort analysis report for the Shopify platform from 2024 Q1 to present (2026 Q2).
The report shows:
- the number of stores created in each quarterly cohort
- the number of stores from that cohort that are still on Shopify in each subsequent quarter
- the number of stores from that cohort that have switched platforms in each subsequent quarter
- the number of stores from that cohort that are no longer in the database (ie. are no longer active) in each subsequent quarter
Using this report, we can clearly see that Shopify is improving retention rates in each quarterly cohort since 2024 Q1 - an impressive accomplishment.
